About Us
Beküldve 2020. 12. 16. KJG Hírmondó
The Kecskemét Katona József Secondary Grammar School was founded in 1948. In 1957 the institution moved to its current location, a 107-year-old Art Nouveau building.
Throughout the history of the school, the composition of training and the structure of education have also changed much in line with societal expectations.
We were among the first in the country to introduce specialized classes, optional education organization, Hungarian-English bilingual education and six-year training.
Our school is one of the founding institutions of the Arany János Talent Development Program, and at the same time a member of the network of talent points.
During the history of the grammar school it became one of the outstanding, recognized institutions first in Kecskemét, then in Bács-Kiskun county, later in the country.
The current number of students is 700, with students studying in a total of 24 classes.
Our teaching staff consist of 56 full-time teachers and 5 lecturers. Many of our colleagues have prestigious professional awards (Ericsson Award, Junior Prima Award, Graphisoft Award, Beke Manó Award, Less Nándor Award, Schwajda Drama Competition Winner, Pro Talento Award, Bonis Bona Award, MOL MesterM Award).
Our slogan expressively sums up our goals.
"Honour and glory to the worthy man" (József Katona)
In our educational program we have defined our school as a child-centered, talent institution in which the activities of educators are aimed at the versatile development of students' personalities and abilities.
The basic framework for talent management is provided by the departments
- four-year Hungarian-English bilingual department
- four garde Hungarian-German bilingual department
- four grade biology department
- four grade mathematics department
- five grade János Arany Talent Development Program
- six garde humanities department
- six-grade science department
From 9th grade onwards our students can choose two languages from English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.
Our main goal to get our students into higher education based on a successful graduation is in line with the goals of students and their parents.
99% of our graduates apply to higher education, and more than 95% of them gain admission to their chosen reputable university.
At the end of graduation, at least 90% of our students possess an intermediate or advanced language exam certificate.
The quality of our work is indicated by the fact that we are ranked around the 50th place among the top 100 schools in the ranking of secondary schools published annually.
As the Research School of the Faculty of Science and Informatics of the University of Szeged, we develop the knowledge of students interested in robotics.
We prepare our talented students for prestigious national subject, art and sports competitions. Our students appreciate this every year with excellent results.
As a result, in both 2018 and 2019 our school was awarded the honorary title of “The Most Successful Talent Care Secondary School in Bács-Kiskun County” by the Office of Education.
From this school year our school has been chosen the base institution of the POK in Szeged.
After the lessons, in addition to study circles, trainings, choirs, media, drawing, robotics, chess, board game activities and a 3D lab are also available for our students.
Our student government organizes the freshman day, the student day, the paper collection for recycling and they are also actively involved in the programs of the various theme weeks.
We also make sure our students have a good time outside the school walls as well. Before the start of the school year we organize a freshman camp, later bicycle tours, hiking tours, water tours, ski camps, theater visits, domestic and foreign study trips.
Secondary school years are a defining experience in the lives of our students. Our former students always remember their teachers and their alma mater with love and respect.
